DIESEL EQUIPMENT MECHANIC

 

     Under minimal supervision, the person is responsible for the diagnosis, repair, reconditioning, overhaul and mechanical maintenance of company diesel equipment such as jockey's, other vehicles, and power generation.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Repair and maintain Jockey Ottawa Kalmar equipment while flexible to repair other equipment on terminal as needed.

 

Technical Skills:

 

  • Comprehend and understand electrical and hydraulic issues.
  • Repair and maintain equipment and components. Repair, inspects, and operates machines.
  • Removes, disassembles, assembles, and installs parts/components.
  • Orders replacement parts ensuring that parts ordered are correct and complete at the time of order.
  • Services and maintains equipment owned by the company.
  • Tests, measures, and adjusts engine and machine systems and components.
  • Troubleshoots and diagnoses machine engine malfunctions and failures.
  • Understands repair and maintenance requests.
  • Keeps up to date with developments in tools, technologies and systems.
  • Uses safe working practices and follows all company safety requirements.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work area.
  • Performs maintenance activities on new and rebuilt/repaired equipment.
  • Makes parts replacement decisions assuring optimum economic reusability.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Ability to effectively utilize parts manuals and manufacturers build sheets.
  • Able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC card).
  • Able to perform functions test on equipment.
  • Computer proficiency with proficient data entry skills.
  • Self-motivated: capable of working independently.
  • Ability to lift weights of 35 lbs.
  • Repair and maintain equipment and components. Repair, inspects, and operates machines.
  • Comprehend and understand electrical and hydraulic issues associated with heavy equipment.
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends and/or holidays.
  • Must have own tools.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work area.
  • Removes, disassembles, assembles, and installs components and parts.
  • Diagnoses and troubleshoots machine and engine malfunctions and failures.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • High School Diploma or GED with graduation from an accredited technical school in diesel engine or heavy equipment preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year experience in heavy equipment engine or electric power generation system repair.
  • Minimum 1 year heavy-duty truck parts experience preferred.
  • Must have High School diploma or GED.
  • General knowledge of office functions.
  • A minimum of 2 years office experience preferred.
